Viking Pool Cue Shaft Replacement

Viking Cue Dilemma

With the recent announcement of Viking Cues shutting down there Wisconsin based operation until a buyer could be found, and the new pool season being upon us a large number of pool players are looking for replacement shafts, and with Viking stopping production this task has become quite difficult.

In the best years of Viking manufacturing's stint, They made around 30,000 pool cues in 12 months. This was a huge number for a "Production Custom" style cue company.

Asian Invasion

At the middle of the internet bubble, the internet picked up steam which made it easier for billiards equipment dealers to trade more readily with cue makers from Taiwan, China and other free trade countries who could produce pool cues of similar looks for a much lower price.

US companies like Viking cue were pressured by these imported cues to be competitive with their prices. Viking needed to beat them with the Viking name which they had established in the market over the 30 years.

The war over American made cues and imported became a loosing battle. Many of the US based companies gave in to the pressure and decided to import cues under their own brand name to reduce labor costs. Viking held their guns which might have been their demise.

Early this year it was released that Viking's factory had stopped production. Like in Willy Wanka and the Chocolate Factory this may not be the conclusion to Viking Cue's story. Word on the street is that Viking has found a buyer , they are negotiating terms for the sale of Viking Manufacturing. My wishes are that this is true and that Viking continues their exceptional cue line.

Right now there are numerous distributors waiting on cues and shafts they ordered before the news of Viking broke.

In addition, seemingly a very limited supply of parts are available on the web. We would like to show you the large number of options actually available but not readily found. these viking shafts are made to fit the proprietary Viking Quick Release joint.

A First Look at the New Kamui Tips

New Kamui Tips introduced to the US 7/17/2009 Las Vegas Nevada - Kamui Pub Con

Kamui had adopted a new tanning process that makes the tips rich with elasticity , abrasive and much higher quality compared to chrome leather,

But with this more consistent production method, the tips were more susceptible to moisture absorption.

The new Kamui tips both have been treated with a new process that makes the leather virtually waterproof.

You will experience a consistent feel from both the new Kamui Black and new Kamui Original.

Kamui now uses a multi platform quality test both before and after production to guarantee every run of tips are worthy of the Kamui name.

This includes a number of hardness tests, density, and elasticticy testing.

Kamui’s new look also serves a purpose.

The cue tip manufacturer now uses a unique foil printing that is very hard to reproduce.

The tips are also marked with Kamui’s legacy serial numbering.

The synergy of these two markings makes Kamui tips impossible to counterfeit.

One major concern for players that choose layered tips is mushrooming and delaminating.

This is mostly caused from the high pressures caused when the tip makes contact with the ball.

Kamui has designed a method of calculating the perfect tanning time and concentration to guarantee the

perfect density which eliminates any delamination or mushrooming, guarantees consistent hardness and

a longer life span from your tip.

Onyx Pool Cue Tips

Tiger has just released news of there new Onyx - LTD® cue tips for billiard cues. These Onyx tips are made with the same bore hides as the well known Sniper tips. Each layer of precision skivved leather is treated with Tiger Cue Products secret process of underground tanning. Each layer of the cue tip is turned black afterwords without using any dye. This is a very slow and time consuming process.

During these steps the cue tip layers are softened ti a medium hardness while making the leather more porous and rubber-like for better cue ball action. This also makes the cue tips easier to maintain and last longer. Onyx cue tips are consistent, long lasting, and high performance.

Onyx cue tips by Tiger will be produced in limited numbers each year. This is because of the very time consuming and labor intensive process needed to create the tips. "For those who want the best, Onyx-LTD®".

Tiger Onyx Cue Tips

Onyx Cue Tips will become available on July 5th 2010, first sales will be available from Tiger Products at the BCA Show in Las Vegas
