ACS PRESENTS LUCASI HYBRID ALL AMERICAN TOUR RESULTS FROM Q’s SPORTS BAR & GIRL IN PORT CHARLOTTE, FL

The forty-fifth stop on the 2010-2011 Lucasi Hybrid All American Tour (produced by the American CueSports Alliance – ACS) was featured in Port Charlotte, FL, on Saturday, April 9, at Q’s Sports Bar & Girl – hosting its annual Q’s Snowbird Open 8 Ball Tournament.  The $240 added handicapped tournament attracted some of the better players in Southwest Florida on 7-foot bar boxes.   Winner’s side semi-finals showcased Tim Barron (Sarasota, FL) 4-3 over Ken Coulter (Punta Gorda, FL) and Master Player Jud Strang (Port Charlotte, FL) 6-2 over Garry Ball (Port Charlotte, FL).  Winners side finals had Tim Barron 4-5 over Jud Strang.  In the B-side quarter finals, Ken Coulter 4-1 took out Wayne Agnew (Venice, FL) and Skyler Banfill (Bradenton, FL) 4-1 eliminated Gary Ball.  The B-side semis had Ken Coulter 4-3 over Skyler Banfill. Finals  Jud Strang then forfeited to Ken Coulter, giving Coulter a shot at undefeated Tim Barron in the tourney finals. Action proved fierce in the finals, as had Ken Coulter bested Tim Barron 4-3 in the first set and Tim Barron reciprocated with a 4-3 decision in the final set for the title. By virtue of Albert Baker (Port Charlotte, FL) being the highest-finishing ACS member in the event, he qualified for a free 9-Ball singles entry into the 2011 Lucasi Hybrid ACS Nationals at the Tropicana Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS.  The ACS wishes to thank sponsors Lucasi Hybrid Cues, Championship Billiard Fabric and Nick Varner Signature Cases for their support in donating “Value-In-Kind” product for this and all stops on the Lucasi Hybrid All American Tour. ACS PRESENTS LUCASI HYBRID ALL AMERICAN TOUR RESULTS FROM THE NITE HAWK IN PORTLAND, OR

The forty-forth stop of the 2010-11 Lucasi Hybri All American Tour (produced by the American CueSports Alliance – ACS)  - The Memorial 9-Ball Tournament - was hosted in Portland, OR, on Friday thru Sunday, 8-10, at the Nite Hawk Lounge.  The $1,500 added event featured a full 48-player field in a double-elimination, handicapped 9-ball format on 8-foot Valley bar boxes.  This event annually draws the top players throughout the northwest United States, and legends such as Stan Tourangeau, Dan Louie, Rich Geiler and Glenn Atwell definitely came out for this one!     With neither displaying any signs of diminished skills, both Dan Louie (Seattle, WA) and Glenn Atwell (Salem, OR) marched to the A-side semifinals, where Louie vanquished Atwell 9-3, while Bobby Zack (Portland, OR) overcame Damian Pongpanik 9-7.  Louie continued his dominance in the A-side finals to eclipse Zack by a 9-3 margin to gain the hot seat.   On the B-side Ivan Doty (Longview, WA) relegated Kenny Dodd (Hillsboro, OR) to 7th place, 9-3, where Dodd was joined by Matt Horner (Salem, OR), who fell to the cue of Zac Masiby (Vancouver, WA) 9-4.  In turn both Doty and Masiby were eliminated in the next round by Glenn Atwell 9-5 and Damian Pongpanik 9-5 respectively.  Atwell kept his hot hand, out stroking Damian Pongpanik at 4th place by a 9-7 margin and Bobby Zack in the B-side finals by a 9-2 score.  A claasic tourney finals emerged with a one-set, race to 11, and Dan Louie kept control to protect his winning ways for the weekend with a 11-6 victory to claim the weekend’s title!   By virtue of Glen Atwell being the highest-finishing ACS member in the event, he qualified for a free 8-Ball singles entry into the 2011 Lucasi Hybrid ACS Nationals at the Tropicana Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS.  The ACS wishes to thank sponsors Lucasi Hybrid Cues, Championship Billiard Fabric and Nick Varner Signature Cases for their support in donating “Value-In-Kind” product for this and all stops on the Lucasi Hybrid All American Tour. April 2011 ATTRACTING SENIOR CITIZENS AND OTHERS TO THE SPORT OF BILLIARDS Written collectively by ACS Instructors Stanley O. Nichols, Jr. (Level 2) Walter D. Ennes, Jr. (Level 2) A Jane Knoeck (Level 1) Remember what our parents always told us while we were growing up? Yes, the three "P's" -- Practice, Practice and more Practice. While this is especially true in all that we do, it is definately true in the sport of billiards. One such successful program has been going on for quite some time in a place called The Villages. The Villages, Florida is a unique 55+ active adult community that provides golfing, bowling, baseball, swimming and billiards - with 1500+ clubs/activities and 19 community recreational centers that house a total of 114 pool tables. The resident population is currently in excess of 80,000+ seniors. Not all residents want or are able to participate in the outdoor activities. They look to indoor activities to keep their "minds" and "bodies" in shape. Seniors work hard to improve their billiards skills learned at ACS classes by competing in the many billiard leagues throughout the Villages and participating in The Senior Games on both State and National levels. Therefore, billiards has become extremely popular in The Villages. ACS instructors in the Villages offer the following: In the last three years the ACS instructors have taught over 2,500 senior “students” free of charge. The student ages range from 55 – 90 + and comprise both men and women. The instructors volunteer their services. Lessons are taught at three community recreational centers on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays throughout the year with each session lasting approximately two hours. Regular class size averages between ten to 30 students and are divided into three segments: Basics Basics to Intermediate Intermediate to Advanced Periodically, a six week structured course with a certificate of completion is offered. Class sizes are limited to 18 students (six per instructor). Student testimonials include: There are no limits to the number of classes a student can attend. They attend until they reach their own personal satisfaction and are prepared for social or league play. The instructors are affiliated with a national organization (ACS) and are certified. This gives the student the confidence they are being trained by professionals. They like the fact that this training is free of charge. The instructors are respectful to all, regardless of their age. The instructors are compassionate to those people with disabilities (i.e., hearing loss, reading lips, wheel chair, degenerative eyesight, partial amputees on crutches, retention span, and other special needs). The instructors have the utmost patience in teaching and are very thorough in describing the lesson in recognizable terms. In all cases, instructors are aware of the physical limitations of class participants and possible limited mobilities. Accommodations are made when necessary. Students are offered video instruction, handouts, as well as training aids. Practice drills are given at every class. Emphasis is on PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Learning and playing billiards is an excellent way for participants to increase memory and mental functions. The sport can also help everyone build lasting friendships while instilling confidence and personal satisfaction. In many areas across the country, recreation centers, senior centers, fitness facilities and other privately-owned indoor sports arenas provide equipment so there is little, or no financial investment needed. Partnerships between retired seniors, local governments, schools and privately owned retirement communities can be implemented by encouraging ACS instructors to establish a "free" Speakers Bureau Program in their individual communities. Local governments are always looking for ways to expand or start new recreation programs for citizens; including city senior centers, schools and neighborhood recreation centers. Billiards programs are an excellent way to help instill personal pride and patience in our nation's youth, while at the same time allowing our country's retired or disabled seniors to continue their goals of sharing and helping others enjoy one of our nation's greatest indoor sport. The forty-third stop on the 2010-2011 Lucasi Hybrid All American Tour (produced by the American CueSports Alliance – ACS) was produced in Davenport, IA, on Saturday, March 26.  The $500 added event featured a 25-player field in a double-elimination 8-ball format on 7-foot Valley bar boxes.  In the A-side semifinals Dan Stienberg (Rockford, IL), rated a “5” on a regional handicap system used, outscored Dean Fuller [4] (Davenport, IA) 5-2, while Jason Totten [4] (Clinton, IA) defeated Joe Villalpando [5] (Bettendorf, IA) 4-3.      In the B-side round of eight, Billy Spatafora [5] (Rockford, IL) and Travis Frazelle [4] (Moline, IL) respectively eliminated Anthony Shea [5] (Rockford, IL) 5-3 and Steve Westlin [5] (Bettendorf, IA) 4-2 at 7th place.  But both Spatafora and Frazelle were ousted in the next round at 5th place to the cues of Dean Fuller 4-4 and Joe Villalpando 5-3 respectively.  Villalpando then ousted Fuller at 4th place 5-2, but Joe was in turn relegated to 3rd place by Jason Totten 4-3.  The tourney final was all Dan Stienberg, as he dominated Jason Totten 5-1 for the title!       By virtue of Travis Frazelle being the highest-finishing ACS member in the event, he qualified for a free 9-Ball singles entry into the 2011 Lucasi Hybrid ACS Nationals at the Tropicana Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS.  The ACS wishes to thank sponsors Lucasi Hybrid Cues, Championship Billiard Fabric and Nick Varner Signature Cases for their support in donating “Value-In-Kind” product for this and all stops on the Lucasi Hybrid All American Tour. The sport of pool and billiards has a unique opportunity. Youtube has selected Inside POOL Video as a semifinalist in the Nextup Program. The program will select Youtube producers to receive assistance from Youtube in creating better programming. Less than 36 hours left to vote!

The highly coveted Youtube Nextup Contest is nearing the end of the voting round. The contest is helping promote billiards with the inclusion of InsidePOOLmag as one of the semifinalists. The channels that receive the top votes advance to the finals, where the Youtube judges will determine the winners.

The contest will single out several channels and genres that will receive promotion and support from Youtube. Billiards needs your votes in order to receive this promotion in the future. We're asking our viewers to vote for our video using the following link.
